Neko was founded in 2007 by Francesco Diodati with the aim of getting together his favorite musicians, and mates, in a kindred spirit project. The quartet features Francesco Bigoni (tenor saxophone), Francesco Ponticelli (electric bass and double bass), Ermanno Baron (drums) and Francesco Diodati (guitar, composition).

While Neko reveals its leader’s inspiration, which goes well beyond any stylistic prejudice, it is open to its members researches and ideas, that converge through interplay towards a well balanced musical conception.

Need Something Strong, the second album of the band, was released in September 2012 with enthusiastic reponses by both audience and critics, who awarded it as the album of the month, on jazz music magazine Jazzit and Musica Jazz, as well Purple Bra (2010). Neko was invited to participate to the international festival 12 Points! (2011) in Dublin, Ankara Jazz Festival 2013 in Turkey, as a leading exponent of the new European contemporary jazz scene. The group has also partecipated to the festival Auand meets NYC in New York on november 2011, as one of the new exponent bands of the label.

Neko's music, mostly composed by Francesco Diodati and including tunes by Thelonious Monk, Jeff Buckley, Kurt Cobain, is a cunning balance between melodic themes, aggressive riffs, improvisation.
