Francesco Ponticelli (1983) starts studying guitar at the age of six. In 1999 he moves on to electric bass and enters a blues band. He also plays in a klezmer band. In 2000 he attends Siena Jazz lessons with Paolino dalla Porta, Franco Fabbrini, Furio di Castri, Piero Leveratto. In 2003 he starts playing double bass and is hired on by great musicians such as Stefano Cocco Cantini, Mirko Guerrini, Piero Borri.  In 2005 he was asked by Enrico Rava to form a new group of youg talents, "Enrico Rava New Generation", with which he plays in the most important festivals and theaters in Italy. In 2006 the group records a live cd produced by La Repubblica e L'Espresso, t sold in 40.000 copies in Italy. In summer of 2006 he was resident artist in Umbria jazz with Giovanni Guidi’s Trio with which he recorded two cds: "Tomorrow never knows", for Venus Records and "Indian Summer", for CamJazz Records, that was presented at Cannes MIDEM. In 2006 he starts playing with Enrico Rava’s quintet, with Roberto Gatto, Gianluca Petrella, Andrea Pozza, substituting Rosario Bonaccorso in important festivals in Italy and abroad. In 2007 he enters Gianluca Petrella’s Cosmic Band, recording a live cd at "Casa del Jazz" in Rome, produced by La Repubblica e L'Espresso. With this group he plays in important festivals and theaters like the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Umbria Jazz Winter, Bergamo Jazz. As a composer, he focuses on radical improvisation and contemporary music projects.
